Customer Rating: Summary: Check the SEC's Review! Comment: A fascinating opinion of some of Weiss's investing advice can be had by searching the web for the Security Exchange Commission's File No. 3-12341. It makes highly cautionary statements about some of the hype. On the other hand, I have appreciated his contrarian warnings for a few years.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fascinating how people's opinions vary Comment: The reviews pre 2006 are very negative. Poor Martin Weiss was too early in his calls. But watch, in 2008 and beyond Martin Weiss will be described as uncannily accurate. The Dow has gone nowhere in 5 years while the Fed has pumped enormous amounts of money into the system and oil has gone over $100 and wheat is skyrocketing. People have a vague sense that something's wrong, but nothing has gotten to the Zimbabwe level yet. By the way, the Zimbabwe stock market had the biggest increase of any stock market in the world in 2007 - as measured in Zimbabwe dollars. Unfortunately for them, 4.1 million of their citizens are in dire need of food assistance. What, their stock investment profits weren't enough to pay for food? Imagine that. Martin Weiss sees a catastrophe in the U.S. until the debts are written off. It's going to be awhile until this is rectified, and Martin Weiss is more prescient than most.
Customer Rating: Summary: Safe Money Report an Outstanding Value Comment: I have been a subscriber of this magazine for many years and have greatly profited from Mr. Weiss's insights. I have found his view of the global economy enlightening. His newsletters are full of realistic recommendations, that I have followed. Some have not panned out but most do. I have made more money following advice in Mr. Weiss's $99 per year newsletter than I have from following the advice of much more expensive investment advisors.
Customer Rating: Summary: Nonsense and Outdated Comment: I subscribed Martin's monthly before. He is definitely a "bear believer", which means however bullish the market is, he keeps claiming that the market is going to crash in a short time. His words are unbelievable. He urges subscriber to buy very rediculous leap (long-term option) and ask you to hold it, no matter you subscribers lose money or not. I wonder if he is the seller of those options he recommends. I would suggest you to save the money from this stuff, don't waste it.
BTW, Martin's core idea is that Dow is worth only 2,000. (What a nonsense)
Customer Rating: Summary: More Hype than Substance Comment: I subscribed to safe money report in 2003 after receiving a marketing package in the mail. The marketing package stated that real estate and stocks "must" crash in 2003. Of course, the exact opposite happened. At the beginning of 2004, the newsletter forecast a major stock market decline and 7%+ Treasury yields. Wrong again! His gold stock and contra-dollar recommendations were actually useful in 2003, but they lagged in 2004 (Weiss had expected gold to surge to $500). Overall, he has lagged the market, which happens to everyone from time to time, but here's the real problem: He's lagged his own claims and promises!
Weiss arrogantly claims that Wall Street is full of hype and brokers are trying to rip off their customers. Yet he pushes gimmicky "trading services" on subscribers that cost thousands of dollars! They wouldn't be worth a dollar to me, considering how lousy his market calls have been over the past couple years.
I canceled my subscription in 2004. This newsletter is certainly not worth the hefty price of subscription. You'd do better subscribing to Money magazine and scanning the back page every month to find out what investments are actually working.
