Summary: Too Many Cooks Spoil the Broth, Or We Can All Learn From Each Other!
Comment: This is a very sweet story about a group of friends who live together happily and cooperate very well together until one of them becomes dissatisfied with "the rules" or habits that become a ritual part of their lives. Duck wants to stir the soup! What to do! A good story on how people grow up and begin trying new things and families have to learn to adapt to the new found roles and skills of their members.

Summary: Great Book for my Preschool Class
Comment: This book does have quiet a few words, and at first that made me think it may not keep the interest of my preschool class. But I was wrong. They absolutely love this book. It is a great book that demonstrates friendship and teamwork. Do not hesitate to buy. It is well worth it. It has a great message that would be wonderful for a child of any age. Even adults who get stuck in a rut. Enjoy!

Summary: Warm, FUNNY, great illustrations - family favorite
Comment: I did not know the extent to which my daughter would come to love this book when I purchased it. Had I known, I would have found a hardcover edition. Let me just say, this is the first book that my almost 4 year old memorized (word for word). This is the first book that my 9 year old will go to when he wants to read to her (e.g. he wants to read it and needs an excuse).

It is a warm tale about friendship, sharing, and overcoming conflict/compromise. It handles conflict naturally (e.g. real characters that really argue and act just like my kids). Real characters with real feelings and vivid imaginations portrayed with flawless, humorous illustrations (we especially love when Squirrel and Cat envision Duck's new shop). The colors of the artwork are warm and orange - just like pumpkin soup. You feel like you are peering in on their lives (like the two little bugs that appear on every page). Most importantly, this book does not come off preachy - so I think it rings true with children. In fact, my daughter uses this book to relate sharing issues - all I need to say is "remember how Duck wanted to use Squirrel's special spoon?" and she gets it - instantly.

And - for some odd reason - my children are now fascinated with pumpkins and want to cook. We have made pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, pumpkin ravioli... and.... Pumpkin soup - The Best You Ever Tasted!

Comment: I like how the characters finally work together to create harmony. It's a great, simple lesson. The illustrations are very nice and I love the feel of the book. Great choice for the 4-8 set!

Summary: Fun story for the season
Comment: I read this book to my elementary and special education students last week and I included some music from Ireland which included bagpipes and violin. I also added a country banjo song, too.
It was great fun! It's a wonderful story for all!

Editorial Reviews:

Cat, Duck and Squirrel live in an old white cabin, with a pumpkin patch in the garden. Every day Cat slices up some pumpkin, Squirrel stirs in some water and Duck tips in some salt to make the perfect pumpkin soup...Until the day Duck wants to do the stirring...This is a funny, rhythmical story about friendship and sharing, with fabulous animal characters, illustrated in glowing autumnal colours with a brilliant CD featuring music and sound effects!
